Embrace Simplicity
With all that we have faced over the past two years simplicity to me
creates a value proposition. Because of
shut downs, supply chain issues and the great resignation era causing the cost
of labor to soar we are faced with inflation.
Too much money chasing too few of goods.
And the inevitable outcome means that in the future everything will
become more expensive. It has to. The result, I believe, will force people to
live in a simpler manner, to value their relationships with one another more
than their possessions, and to focus on things that are fundamental to life and
to the enjoyment of life.
The difficulties we face in the world around us remind us of the
importance of simplicity. Simplicity is not merely owning fewer things. It
really has to do with how much energy it requires for you to live your life and
how many resources it requires for you to maintain where you live, how you
live, how you travel about and your other activities and so forth.
The bible tells us in Matthew 6, “Don’t
store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them,
and where thieves break in and steal. 20 Store your
treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not
break in and steal. 21 Wherever your treasure is,
there the desires of your heart will also be.
This Lenten season I pray that you focus your mind on your one true
treasure. Focus on Jesus and the
everlasting value proposition that only He provides. Life eternal with Him. As I have heard it said, “You will never see a hearse with a U-Haul behind it.”
Prayer: Father God, we thank you for your words. Please help us to slow down and live a simpler
life where we have more time and energy to focus on the things that matter.
Those things that are everlasting. We do
not need more stuff, we need more of you.
AMEN.
